“How to…” Series - A Panel Discussion on Ethics Part 1

Panel: Dr. Ioanna Iordanou of Oxford Brookes, Professor David Lane, Dr. Emma Sedgwick, and Professor Alison Hardingham.

APECS Host: Laira Gold.

We are excited to share with you a new “How to…” series of panel discussions on a range of essential topics in the coaching profession.

This topic addresses how we recognise and explore some of the common ethical responsibilities, choices, and dilemmas of coaching.

“We all face ethical dilemmas everyday, and yet, as coaches, we hope we can all develop a level of self awareness that might inform how we navigate these dilemmas professionally.
It is through sharing best practice, being willing to be vulnerable through appropriate use of supervision, and ultimately learning through reflection that helps us to expand our awareness and develop in this area. It is sessions like these, that are designed to be intensely practical and promote a sense of togetherness that are exactly what is needed”.
~ Dr. Emma Sedgwick, Executive Coach and ex. Medico-legal advisor for the Medical Defence Union.

Experience teaches us when we have crossed an ethical line, either a personal or a professional boundary. But those experiences can cost us emotionally, psychologically, sometimes professionally. They can also be mentally exhausting.
How can we bring some of the common ethical responsibilities, choices and dilemmas of coaching more forefront, to be more alive in our everyday conversations? The two 'Ethics - Part 1' sessions in the "How to..." series seek to address exactly this - to create a welcoming, inclusive space to explore and share best practice in a way that is relevant, meaningful and practical”.

~ Dr. Ioanna Iordanou of Oxford Brookes, Author of Values and Ethics in Coaching

What to expect?

The sessions promise to be a series of lively, informative, and dynamic panel discussions, where experienced members may offer their expertise to newer members, therefore facilitating growth and development at all levels.
