Every team is a unique blend of its task, its context, and its membership so that no formula for team coaching is good at all times and in all places. The five questions are a template for analysis, aiming to encourage practitioners to be thoughtful about the unique circumstances, characteristics, and context of each team, so as to contract effectively and craft the most useful interventions with that team.

The workshop will open with an exploration of the five questions in relation to a worked example, proceed to participants’ exploration of how the questions illuminate their own team practice, followed by further questions and discussion and concluding with an opportunity to reflect on our learning.

There will be a 15 minute break in the middle of the seminar. There will be some pre-reading shared prior to the session also.

The workshop will be useful to coaches with at least some experience of team coaching, as it will be interactive and ask participants to apply the five questions to their own experience.

 

Speaker bio

Christine Thornton is an organisational consultant and supervisor, helping organisational leaders and coaches think through complex systemic and relationship dynamics, for better business performance. She is author of the best-selling Group and team coaching (Routledge 2010, 2016), and in The art and science of working together (Routledge 2019) she develops her analysis of team coaching further.
