Presented by Laura Walker.
Mid-life is a dance with fear and confidence. How do we avoid common pitfalls when working with clients to find career fulfilment after 40?
Based on her award-winning research and her new book, Laura shares the key insights all coaches need to know when working with clients in mid-life and beyond.
Before the pandemic, many people were dreading the prospect of working as they were for the next 10,15, or 20 years - even more are today. We have been forced to work differently and many are questioning how and where they work, what they do, and what really matters to them.
Even without the current context, mid-life was always been an important time to take stock and ask yourself big important questions - who am I now, what do I want from the rest of my life, what is my legacy. There is, however, precious little empirical research to support coaches working with people at this pivotal stage in their lives.
In 2019, the National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling (NICEC) gave their top research award to Laura Walker for her grounded theory study into Late career reinvention coaching. They announced the inaugural Bill Law Memorial Award at their National conference citing the quality of the work, the value of the insight it brought, and how it successfully bridged academic theory and practitioner benefit. This research forms the foundation of her book Dancing with fear and confidence but is also augmented by hundreds of references from adjacent disciplines.
Her work challenges long-held assumptions about careers guidance and requires coaches to develop and enhance their practice so they can best support their clients. Recent testimonials from the International Career Thought Leaders Career Jam included - "Thanks for an excellent and thought-provoking presentation."
